How to Access PC Files from Android over WiFi using ES File Explorer

Are you looking for a way to access PC files from Android? You know it’s not an easy task as the conventional method is accessing Android files on the computer.

But don’t worry! I am going to show you how to do it without sweating much. Of course, you need a working wifi connection. And, you must connect both of the devices (Computer and Android Device) to the same wifi network as well. So, without much ado, let’s get into the core of this post

How to Access PC Files from Android over Wifi

I am going to list out the steps needed for the process. You need to follow each of them carefully to transfer files between the devices over the wireless network connection.
Step 1: First, you have to enable sharing settings. Open Control Panel and, go with Choose homegroup and sharing settings.
Step 2: From the next screen, you have to click on Change advanced sharing settings.

Step 3: Now you need to look beneath File and printer sharing. In case the option beneath it is turned off, you should turn on. Finally, hit Save changes.

Step 4: Once you do the three steps given above, you need to create a folder and paste the files you want to share into it. (I am not going to give you how to create a folder or copy-paste files as I think you are completely aware of it. Let us move on to the sharing section.)

Step 5: Right-click on the folder you want to share. From the context menu that pops up, the option you should select is the last one; Properties. You can also do the same by simultaneously pressing Alt and Enter as well.

Step 6: At this step, you will get a small window with multiple tabs. To share the folder, you need to navigate to the second tab; that is Sharing. Now you have to click on the Share button from the same tab. In the next window you can enter the list of people for sharing this folder with for this instance have choose everyone. This step is mandatory to share folders over LAN without the help of any third-party tools.

Step 7: There are no built-in methods to access shared files or folders on Android. What we need here is a full-fledged file manager. I found ES File Explorer to be the best one for this job. You can Download ES File Explorer from Google Play if you don’t already have it.
Step 8: After installing es file explorer on your Android device, you have to open it right away. Before proceeding to this step, make sure you did all the six steps given above.
Step 9: Tap on the menu button on the top-left portion of the screen and, choose LAN under Network.
Step 10: You should tap on the scan button to see the list of PCs available for sharing. The only thing you can see is the IP address. So make sure you note it down in case of the availability of multiple devices.
Step 11: Finally, choose the device whose files you want to access. Based on the Sharing settings, you may have to enter username and password. It is possible to open the files directly or copy-paste into your local storage.
Here i have shown you the step by step with es file explorer as it’s a popular app and most of the people already have it installed on their phones. However, You can also use some other third-party apps like Airdroid, Solid Explorer to serve the same purpose.
I hope now you know how to access PC files from Android over wifi. In case you have any issues regarding this topic, don’t hesitate to scribble down your problem into the comment field down below. I will be more than glad to help you out.
